New Members
New members are always welcome at MSCC. Whether your child has never sat in a kayak before or is looking to develop competitive skills, this is the place to start. We are a junior club — open to young people aged 10 to 20. Parents and guardians are warmly encouraged to get involved too.

How to Join
1. Get in touch Send us a message using the contact form below, or reach out via Instagram. Tell us your child’s age and any previous kayaking experience (none is fine!).
2. Come for a session We’ll invite you to come along on a Saturday morning. Buoyancy aids and kayaks are provided — just bring warm layers and a willingness to get wet.
3. Register and pay If you’d like to continue, register on Spond (our club app) and pay the term fee. We’ll also ask you to register your child with Canoeing Ireland (€15 once a year) which covers their insurance.
What to bring
For a first session, all you need is:
- Warm, layered clothing (thermal base layer, wind-proof top)
- Old trainers or water shoes that can get wet
- A towel and dry change of clothes
- A buoyancy aid (we can provide one for a first session)
- For regular members, we recommend getting your own buoyancy aid. See our Boats & Skills page for a full clothing guide.
Membership fees
Term fee: €[amount] per term (approximately 8–10 Saturday sessions)
Annual Canoeing Ireland registration: €15 per junior (covers insurance)
Fees are kept as low as possible. The club is run entirely by volunteers and relies on term fees and fundraising to cover equipment and running costs. Payment is made through Spond. We do not turn away children for financial reasons — please speak to the secretary in confidence if fees are a concern.
What parents should know
Kayaking is a time-commitment sport. Sessions typically run 1.5 hours including setup and getting changed. We ask parents and guardians to remain in the general area during sessions — the MYC Café at Malahide Marina is a popular spot to wait.
Once your child is a regular member, a roof rack is essential for transporting kayaks on club trips. If you can help with driving, coaching support, or any other club role — even occasionally — please let us know. The club thrives on parent involvement.
